Northside Trombone Quartet, a chamber ensemble at The University of Texas at Austin, recently won first prize in the trombone quartet competition at the 2013 International Trombone Festival held this summer in Columbus, Georgia. The ensemble, comprised of three graduate students (Jeremy Marks, Alex Cruz and Blair Castle) and an undergrad (Trey Medrano), was the only ensemble from the Americas selected to compete in the final round of competition.

Subito Bones (Joshua Balleza, Matt Carr, Alex Glen, and Daniel Fears), also UT students, won first prize in last year’s trombone quartet competition at the 2012 International Trombone Festival in Paris, France.
